This amazing specimen was salvaged in 2012 from the coast of Washington State near Pacific Beach. Spruce burls of this size and shape are quite rare. Especially considering this particular burl was not growing off the side of the tree, but completely around the trunk. The tree itself was only 28” diameter, yet the burl was a 60”plus sphere. In the second and third pictures, one can see that some of the burl slabs will contain portions of the trunk and those cut off the side moving toward the center will be of a more circular shape. The burl was cured from 2012 to 2015 when it was milled into 3” thick slabs. It was then stickered and air dried for 3 years and then moved inside. The slabs are now stable and ready to be worked. Most are rough sawn at this point but can be planed, sanded and finished to your specifications. There are 9 similar slabs available.
